Personal Protective Equipment
Personal Protective Equipment (PDF)
Protective equipment is issued as determined by the job classification assessment.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is used to create a protective barrier between the worker and the hazards in the workplace. PPE is not a replacement for good engineering controls or safe work practices. Rather, PPE should be used in conjunction with these controls to ensure the health and safety of employees and should be worn at all appropriate times. PPE will be furnished as needed per Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) guidelines. All PPE should be maintained in a sanitary condition, ready for use. Please consult the Personal Protective Equipment Policy for more specific guidance.
Eye Protection
Proper eye protection must be worn when the nature of the operation presents a potential eye or face injury. Examples of these hazards include flying objects, dust, hot or splashing metals, harmful light, caustics or acids.
Gloves
Appropriate gloves and aprons shall be worn when handling hazardous chemicals and abrasive materials. Gloves should be replaced when the signs of wear are apparent.
Hard Hats
Hard hats shall be worn in all designated areas and construction areas by everyone.
Hearing Protection
Hearing protection should be used in work areas where the continuous noise levels exceed 85 decibels. All employees exposed to high noise areas are given annual audiometric testing. This testing program will be used to evaluate the effectiveness of the hearing protection program. Learn more about »Ê¼Ò»ªÈË's hearing conservation program.
Respiratory Equipment
Approved respiratory equipment shall be worn when the worker is exposed to toxic chemicals, dusts, paints, fungus, or other inhalation hazards. Respiratory equipment should be fit tested prior to use to ensure proper protection.
Shoes
It is recommended that approved safety shoes be worn to protect your feet. »Ê¼Ò»ªÈË will reimburse all or part of the cost of safety shoes.
