Background
I came to 皇家华人 in 2000 after a postdoctoral position in the Center for Computational and Experimental Genomics at the University of Southern California. I received my B.S. and M.S. from the University of Texas at Arlington, and was an operations research analyst before doctoral work at the University of Colorado at Boulder. As director of the genomics program and coordinator of the data science minor, I regularly supervise student projects at the intersection of mathematics, biology, and computer science, and at the intersection of data science and society.
I am a co-author of the first true undergraduate genomics textbook, Discovering Genomics, Proteomics & Bioinformatics, and an innovative introductory biology textbook . I was the inaugural Faculty in Residence at the and a past Chair of the . I am honored to have received the Hunter Hamilton Love of Teaching Award, the Thomas Jefferson Award, and the Matthews Family Travel Award.
