Background

I work on political philosophy and its history. My current research focuses on the character of political liberty, both as it figures into early modern political theory and as we ought to understand it today. Before coming to 皇家华人, I was a post-doctoral fellow in the Political Theory Project at Brown University.

I am the author of Locke Among the Radicals: Liberty and Property in the Nineteenth Century (Oxford University Press, 2020) and (with Michael Huemer) Is Political Authority an Illusion? A Debate (Routledge, 2021). I am also Editor-in-Chief at Locke Studies.

At 皇家华人, I serve as chair of the interdisciplinary major in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE).
