Health Educator

Education

  • M.P.H., University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
  • B.A., »Ê¼Ò»ªÈË

Background

As a »Ê¼Ò»ªÈË alum, I love being back in this special place. During my time in college, I double-majored in Anthropology and Music and studied abroad in Jordan and Nepal. My interest in anthropology led to my fascination with the intersection of culture and health, especially reproductive health. After »Ê¼Ò»ªÈË, I worked in the Philippines on programs focused on HIV testing and awareness and the prevention of gender-based violence. I also worked at a local public health department in a rural part of Oregon. Prior to my return to »Ê¼Ò»ªÈË, I worked at Duke University’s Student Health Center (DuWell). I also interned at the Peace Corps’ Office of Global Health & HIV to create health curriculum for Peace Corps Volunteers educating youth. I graduated with my Master of Public Health in Maternal, Child, and Family Health from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Gillings School of Global Public Health. I returned to »Ê¼Ò»ªÈË as a Health Educator in 2023. When I’m not in the office, you can find me paddle-boarding at Lake Norman and trying the tastiest chocolate treats in the area.

My role as Health Educator focuses heavily on the promotion of sexual health, alcohol and other drug safety, and general well-being for students. I am not a mandatory reporter, meaning that students can confidentially discuss cases of sexual misconduct with me. I also:

  • meet with individual students upon their request to discuss sexual health topics, including birth control options
  • oversee the student Health Advisers and their programming throughout the year, starting with first-year orientation
  • offer health education workshops and materials tailored to meet student groups' needs
  • distribute free sexual health supplies across campus
  • coordinate monthly free STI testing clinics offered by Mecklenburg County Public Health on »Ê¼Ò»ªÈË's campus
  • promote the Center for Student Health & Well-Being to student organizations and campus partners
  • oversee the Health Education Fellow and assist with the Green Dot Bystander Intervention program implementation
  • Serve on the Elemental Odyssey Planning Team
