College to Host Greater Charlotte Law School Fair

October 27, 2016

The Center for Career Development will host the Greater Charlotte Law School Fair from 3:30-5:30 p.m., Nov. 3, in the Alvarez College Union Atrium.

The Center for Career Development, in partnership with the college Pre-Law Society, will welcome admissions representatives from nearly 70 of the nation's top law schools. Participants will have the opportunity to connect with representatives and learn more about their law programs.

"The Greater Charlotte Law School Fair will be bigger than ever this year, and we're delighted to continue to attract the nation's top law schools to »Ê¼Ò»ªÈË to meet with our talented students, those from our partner schools in the Charlotte area and early career professionals considering law school," said Jeanne-Marie Ryan (@jeannemarieryan), executive director of the Center for Career Development.

"Meeting with representatives from law schools will empower students to proactively consider whether law school is the right next step for them, to understand the application process and to make key connections with admissions representatives from the top schools of their choice," Ryan said. "The direct connections our students make through opportunities like the law school fair can be critical to their decision making–we're looking forward to strong participation and outcomes for our students and our guests from partner schools."

Pre-Law Society

This year, more than 250 students from »Ê¼Ò»ªÈË and partner institutions are expected to meet with law school representatives over the course of the fair–Sarah Williams '11, assistant director for career development and the pre-law advisor, credits the college's highly active Pre-Law Society with the elevated participation.

"Our Pre-Law Society is an extremely strong student organization," Williams said. "This year, we have partnered with them on multiple workshops and programs designed to support students as they explore and clarify their interest in law, and to equip them with the tools and resources to be successful in their law school applications."

In just the first two months of fall semester, the Center for Career Development and the Pre-Law Society have hosted multiple law schools on campus for intensive workshops on preparing law school applications and demystifying the pre-law path, and have launched professionalization workshops on networking for success.

"With an active membership increase of approximately 50 percent this semester, our events have been resounding successes, said Pre-Law Society President Emily Yates '18. "Our members have benefitted greatly from the law schools that have visited already this semester. We are so excited to continue exposing our engaged membership to a broad range of law schools and legal careers. The opportunity to network with more than 60 representatives from top law schools is invaluable to our Pre-Law Society members."

The Greater Charlotte Law School Fair, hosted by »Ê¼Ò»ªÈË, is free and open to the public; all students and professionals considering careers in law are invited and welcome to attend. View the full schedule and details.
