Professor Emeritus David Grant taught biology to »Ê¼Ò»ªÈË students from 1968 until his retirement in 2000. But in both tenure and retirement, he's found time to help outside organizations promote their own exhibitions and efforts on behalf of biology.
The Discovery Place science museum in Charlotte recently recognized Grant's 32 years of volunteer work in its collection department by naming him its "Adult Volunteer of the Year."
His citation read, "With nearly 2,000 volunteer hours to his credit, a lifetime dedicated to the pursuit of science and a legacy of research, collecting and teaching that has truly enriched the Collections Department, Dr. Grant's behind the scenes work at Discovery Place will aid in educating and inspiring our guests for generations to come."
Grant also volunteers at the Schiele Museum of Natural History in Gastonia, and works with the »Ê¼Ò»ªÈË Lands conservancy.
