A Message to the Campus Community: Ebola Virus and International Travel
Dear Members of the »Ê¼Ò»ªÈË Community:
You may be aware of the recent outbreaks of infectious disease across Africa, most notably Ebola Fever in West Africa. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has recently issued a Level 3 travel warning advising against nonessential travel to Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia. Ebola cases in Nigeria are currently confined to health care workers who cared for an Ebola patient before a diagnosis was made, so the CDC is recommending travelers to Nigeria use specific hygiene precautions.
»Ê¼Ò»ªÈË is aware of a very limited number of campus members (students, faculty, and staff) with this travel history. We have contacted these individuals and have determined that there is no current cause for concern. For any other students, faculty, or staff who have traveled within the last three weeks to Sierra Leone, Guinea, Liberia or Nigeria, the college is requiring the following:
Prior to returning to campus/classes, contact Jan Poole, RN, Assistant Director of Student Health and Counseling, at japoole@davidson.edu or 704-894-2300.
We will continue to closely monitor communications from the CDC, World Health Organization (WHO) and local health departments, and will inform the campus community as appropriate.
Please contact Jan Poole or me with questions or concerns.
Thank You,
Tom Shandley
Dean of Students
