Archivists Launch Effort to Find Sites Sunken by Construction of Lake Norman
The »Ê¼Ò»ªÈË Archives staff invites area citizens to share their skills and knowledge for its new crowdsourcing project entitled "Under Lake Norman."
Archivist Jan Blodgett and Librarian Craig Milberg hope to gather images, stories and information regarding historical sites and structures that were covered by Lake Norman as the 50th year anniversary of its creation in 1963 approaches.
The data they have gathered so far is viewable on an interactive map located on the Archives Community space website at.
The archivists have already populated the map with about 10 sites. Those include several historic plantation houses, Sherrills Ford across the Catawba River, the old Highway 150 bridge, the home site of George »Ê¼Ò»ªÈË, who was the father of Revolutionary War General William Lee »Ê¼Ò»ªÈË, and the site of the Battle of Cowan's Ford, where General »Ê¼Ò»ªÈË was killed fighting British troops.
People with information and photos of sites that should be added to the map may do so at
